During the Celebratory ball, the cocky tomcat Jim met the Vulcan royal highness, Spock at the gardens after he helped Chekov, a young nobleman who is making his first appearance in the Federation society, through his fear of attending it.

Jim, upon hearing Spock said of his disappointment of the son of the Great Hero from the deeds he heard from the society and of how the nobility of the Kirk has fallen from his deed, snapped and raised his fist at the vulcan Prince. (Not caring if he is royalty or not)

Spock avoided the attack and this caused Jim's anger to risen and had an all out fist fight with spock who avoided every punch. But upon seeing Jim about to trip from a small stone monument on the ground, held him up, not realising that his hands held Jim's to support him.

A strange sensation was felt between the two and Spock jerked away and retreated back to the ballroom, leaving Jim dumbfounded.

The next day, Jim was punished for his crazy behaviour at the ball (assault of the Prince?!) by Sam when the Kirks received the most shocking news of their lives.

Jim was to enter the Royal Terran troop and serve as the Royal Prince's bodyguard and... consort?!.

Of course, Sam was not happy with the Federation's decision.
